Maison Chaumet, in partnership with Qatar Museums and M7, is delighted to announce Aisha Alattiya as the winner of the exclusive tiara project commissioned by Alfardan Jewellery and Qatar Museums. Building on the legacy of the Chaumet & Nature High Jewellery exhibition held in Doha at M7 in 2024, this groundbreaking initiative invited artists and designers from the Middle East to craft one-of-a-kind tiaras that merged their cultural heritage with Chaumet's fascination with the natural world. Together, M7 and Chaumet reaffirm their commitment to nurturing emerging talent, bridging cultural heritage with contemporary creativity. It especially highlights Chaumet’s long tradition of tiara making and how the Maison continually renews the design and style of this signature jewel.
Inspired by the Chaumet & Nature exhibition, which highlighted the Maison’s longstanding connection to the natural world and its dialogue with different cultures, M7, on the initiative of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, sought to create a unique opportunity for artists and designers in the region. The vision was to task them with reinterpreting the tiara—a symbol of heritage and power—through the lens of their own cultural identities and artistic expressions, while honouring Chaumet’s tradition of celebrating nature.
Commissioned by Alfardan Jewellery and Qatar Museums, the journey began with an open call to jewellery designers, architects, product designers, and artists in applied and decorative arts from across the region, attracting more than eighty applicants. Eleven designers were short-listed to participate in an exclusive masterclass led by Chaumet's Creative Studio Director, Olga Corsini, at M7. After the masterclass, the three finalists—were shortlisted for a unique opportunity to visit Chaumet's workshop at Place Vendôme in Paris. During their two-day trip, the finalists explored the design studio, learned the art of gouaches, and visited the High Jewellery workshop to meet with artisans and Benoît Verhulle, the workshop head, leading the tiara's creation.
Alattiya's winning design, "The Houbara Haven”, is a testament to the beauty of her cultural roots and echoes Chaumet’s naturalist designs. Inspired by Qatar's natural landscape, pearls, and rich cultural heritage, the tiara tells a captivating story, beginning with the discovery of the resilient Awsaj plant, which thrives in the harsh desert environment. Its fruit, reminiscent of pearls, with delicate white and purple blossoms, is known for its medicinal properties, while the plant's intertwined branches, traditionally used to craft embroidery spindles, form the tiara's intricate foundation. The design also celebrates Qatar’s celebrated falconry tradition, with the exquisite piece evoking the refuge the Houbara bird finds within the branches during hunting season. The tiara integrates exceptional natural pearls from the Gulf, a tribute to Chaumet’s fine pearl tradition. It also echoes Qatar's pearl diving rich heritage, represented today by venerable merchant houses such as the Alfardan family led by Hussain Alfardan, whose passion for pearls is renowned worldwide.
Crafted over 740 hours, the tiara has been produced at the heart of Paris, in Chaumet’s High Jewellery workshop at 12 Place Vendôme. The completed "Houbara Haven” tiara will be revealed to the public at M7 during Qatar Creates Fall 2025 at the end of October 2025, marking a significant achievement in Alattiya's artistic journey.
